Okay, so maybe it wasn't me, but I woulda freaked th fuck out if it happened in front of me. Dashcam footage captured the incredible moment the pilot navigated the tricky landing – using Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania as a makeshift runway. The plane suddenly started experiencing engine trouble not long after departing Solberg, New Jersey, en route to Indiana.
The Michigan pilot, 65, reportedly didn’t want to land on the highway but realised he had no choice to save himself and his passenger. A witness said the pilot looked calm despite the high-stakes landing.
Guy actually did one helluva job putting it down the way he did, but I'll betcha a buck he got drunk as fuck after the dust settled. And - by the way - if anything like this ever happens in front of you, do NOT stop behind the vehicle. Go around it and then pull over. Everybody behind that plane probably stayed there 'ti lunctime. Juss' sayin'...

I was driving to work one morning about 5:00 AM. As I crested a rise about 75’ in front of me, in my lane, there was a helicopter hovering maybe 4-5’ off the road surface. The pilot saw me a second after I saw him. I braked from about 90mph (5:00 AM remember) just as the pilot lifted and I slid under him. If he was half so scared as I was, he was in no shape to fly.
ReplyDeleteGuy did a great job. Notice the prop? Might be frame refresh reate, but it looks to me like it was windmilling which means the engjne was off. Super high sink rate too.
ReplyDeleteGuess pilot was beyond Alexandria field. This is my area; Solberg 10 miles east if me and PA 15 miles west. Very glad he found a straight level piece of 78w land on that wasn’t wall to wall trucks.
ReplyDeleteThe guy actually landed some miles west of Allentown, in the eastbound lane. So he must have turned around. The real miracle is this was 9am on a weekday. And the highway was empty!
