Don't know the details but the Spirit deal is likely to be loan guarantees, not actual pallets of cash. (Those go to other sorts under different leadership...) The Chrysler "bail out" was loan guarantees where the Feds backstopped private (i.e. mostly bank) loans.
ReplyDeleteOf course, what makes this an inspirational story is that Chrysler paid off the loans, with interest, ahead of time, saved thousands of jobs and kept open a major production facility thus saving hundreds of suppliers and downstream business from going down, too.
Of course, Chrysler had to boot the old leadership and bring in Iacocca with his proven record of no nonsense get the job done leadership. Is the BoD at Spirit going to do that? I

Iacocca details everything in his autobiography - really worth the read. His story about how his non-Italian classmates viewed pizza as a kid is a bit of a hoot.
