The Senate yesterday rejected an amendment that would ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. Democrats voted 49 to 41 against the Protection for Women and Girls in Sports Act on Saturday, blocking one of President Donald Trump’s top priorities. If passed, the amendment would target federally funded schools that allow individuals assigned male at birth to join women’s or girls’ athletic programs.
Think about that. Every single Democrat that was there - including Fetterman - voted against it. Four senators didn’t vote: Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.; Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo.; Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich.; and Peter Welch, D-Vt.
I have to believe it's only because it was proposed by a Republican and Trump wants it passed. No Democrat would ever propose a bill like this out of fear of pissing off that 0.0000011% of their voter base that is trans.
As a side note, of those Americans polled, Approximately 45% of Democrats support allowing transgender athletes to compete on sports teams that align with their current gender identity, according to polling between 2021 and 2025. However, this support is divided and has dropped substantially in some polls, with nearly half of Democrats (48% in some studies) favoring restrictions requiring athletes to compete based on their sex assigned at birth.
Maybe the times, they are, a'changin'...
