There they go again - protecting us from ourselves. Enjo your Spring Break, kids...

Starting March 1, beachgoers at the so-called Spring Break capital of the world could be hit with fines up to $500 or jail time. It comes as officials in Florida roll out a number of temporary laws to keep people safe while on vacation. Panama City Beach with 27 miles of sand to enjoy is the “Spring Break capital of the world,” according to Beach Bash and lawmakers are kicking off the season with a reminder for beachgoers on how to stay safe. As well as a number of well-known rules such as no alcohol consumption on the sandy beach, no violence or fighting, and no jumping off balconies, two ‘shovel’ rules are lesser known but also carry strict penalties.

Law enforcement officials have reminded both residents and visitors that as well as following the life-saving flag law, there are other beach-related rules that must be obeyed. First, no metal shovels are allowed on the beach, as part of keeping the area safe. Second, beachgoers are not permitted to dig holes any deeper than two feet deep. Part of this rule is that any holes that are dug must be filled in before leaving the beach.
At the end of the list of Spring Break laws being introduced on March 1, cops warned that violations of any of them will result in strict penalties. “Violations of these laws may result in: Arrest and at least one night in County Jail,” they warned.
