Jeez - that's what he looks like? I'm somehow disappointed...

He's the world’s most famous living artist – and as his mystique is good for sales, no one in the art world is in a hurry to find out who Banksy really is. The mystery man, whose work sells for as much as $ 20 million at auction, has taunted the authorities by putting his work on a police sentry box, a prison wall and most recently the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

There have been theories about who the street art outlaw might be, with many people believing he is dance act Massive Attack’s founding member Robert Del Naja - who visited Ukraine at the same time as Banksy.

But now, after more than 25 years of avoiding arrest or being named, a news agency has claimed to have conclusively worked out who the art outlaw really is.

Following a three-year investigation, reporters at Reuters believe a man called Robin Gunningham changed his identity in 2008 by deed poll and took the second most-common name in Britain, David Jones, which allowed him to travel the world incognito.

 

Public-school-educated Gunningham, 51, from Bristol, has long been suspected of being Banksy, but this is the first time his new identity has come to light.

 

Ya havta wonder if - now that he's been 'unmasked' - it will hurt the values of the works people have spent ungodly amounts of money on. 

And, yeah, I'da thought he'd be some skinny belink nerd with big black-framed glasses. Missed that one by a bit...
