A quick glance at Wikipedia's list of Polish people demonstrates the stereotype as false. Poland has produced notable minds in such diverse areas of knowledge as Astronomy (Nicolaus Copernicus), Chemistry (Marie Curie), Music (Frédéric Chopin and Henryk Górecki), Literature (Stanisław Lem), Religion (Karol Józef Wojtyla AKA Pope John Paul II), and Politics (Lech Wałęsa). A deeper look into that list reveals a number of highly intelligent Polish people who are less well known.
Yet, there are an innumerable jokes and unfair stereotypes regarding Polish people being of inferior intelligence in American culture. Polish is pretty much a US thing, in the UK it's the Irish, in France the Belgians.
Last but not least, Polish language is extremely difficult for a foreigner. Learning it requires much more time and dedication than for example Italian or Spanish. That's a barrier that very few people are ready to overcome, so Polish culture and literature is little known. This leaves space to assume that it is somehow inferior.

EVERY immigrant group was disparaged by the folks already here. The language barrier for Poles didn't help. But NEVER FORGET...when the massive wave of immigrants came to this country after the war of southern secession, and before serious barriers were put up in the 1930s, EVERYONE who came was medically checked out, had to have a sponsor or a documented skill/trade, and had to support THEMSELVES or rely on the networks of "mutual aid societies" which were 100% VOLUNTARILY FUNDED and geared specifically to help bridge the gap while folks fully got on their feet. Now compare that to today, where wave after wave of sub-90 IQ folks come and live PARASITICALLY off the rest of us, while our worthless government STEALS more and more from the rest of us to ensure that their new "voter class" will be around long enough to replace all the whites of European heritige.
ReplyDeleteWell at least FRANCE gets it right!!!
ReplyDeleteConsidering the fact that Poland is the only EU country standing up against Brussels, this is all the proof you need to understand that they are smarter than the rest of Europe.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that they JOINED the EU of course was one time they were IJIOTS!
Don't forget about Hungary. They are standing up just as tall.
DeleteAs one of my T-shirts proclaims: Yes, I'm Polish. And no, you can't pronouce my last name. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteThe Poles just had to take their place in line as the butt of jokes made by immigrant groups who got to America before them. Ask the Irish. For that matter if you go back to days of the Revolution the Germans had their turn. Pretty much every other group has gotten the same hazing. Mexicans? You bet! Chinese, yup! Everybody
ReplyDeleteRight now they are the smartest country on earth. No Somalians.
ReplyDeletePolish mathematicians Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki, and Henryk Zygalski broke the German Enigma machine code in 1932–1933, reconstructing its internal wiring sight-unseen.
ReplyDeleteI'm told this one had a real reason. World war 2 Polish cavalry men charged tanks. Well supposedly, other versions say the were retreating from a superior force and the tanks cut them off.
ReplyDeleteMost Of the “Poles are dumb jokes,” I heard first as Texas Aggie jokes. Take from that what you will.
ReplyDeleteAs a young man I pondered the Polish smear (because it didn't make sense) and guessed it was probably started by NAZI's in order to demonize them prior to their invasion in 1939.
