For the US to send money, either through foreign aid or by allowing non-citizens to wire money home, is absurd. Name me a country that sends us money.

ReplyDeleteWe are not. They don't get cash (at least, not usually- there have been exceptions). There's a black market in the various credits (EBT etc), and no good way to track. Also, one can buy approved goods and then resell (at a loss, sure) to generate cash. If the benefit is free, ANY cash conversion is worth doing, at least for some people.
DeleteThe way to fix this is to eliminate the benefit. No benefit, no way to circumvent the rules. So, no benefits to any immigrant beyond say 3 to 6 months, and zip to any illegal, kids included. Similarly, no benefits to any citizen beyond a few months either. It's a hand through a rough patch, not a lifestyle. Eliminate WIC, eliminate most Medicaid, etc.
Problem is there's no appetite for that. It takes spine to re-open orphanages and workhouses.
Since WWII our government believed sending money all over the world would buy us friends. Look at us now that we're taking our money back and their true colors are showing. They've always hated us.

ReplyDeleteHow does he propose to enforce that? Some kind of instant check (like for guns) at Western Union, the Post Awful, etc? Really? And how does he plan to get around the Muslim hawala transfer system, which is distributed, largely secret, ignores banks, and probably can't be intercepted at the border? Hawala uses couriers, who could certainly remain legal by declaring that they're carrying cash or valuta like gold even if the original transfer were sanctioned. And of course, the couriers will mostly just ignore any rules and bet on slipping by, as they do now.
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea. Absolutely good policy. Implementation looks problematic, unless all government payments are somehow tied to a card and CAN'T be monetized (likely impossible, given the EBT fraud seen today).
That is the rub with 90% of what comes out of this government. It is all performative with no chance of it ever getting implemented.

They had 2 chambers and the presidency since Jan 2025 why did they wait until it was impossible to implement to start working on it? Because it is all a performance. Photo ops at a jail in El Salvador, Hegseth bench pressing at the gym, Patel celebrating at the Olympics....all a performance. Meanwhile everyone in the Epstein files in free, prices have not come down a cent and we are sleep walking into a war that nobody wants with Iran.

For every dollar that is sent outside of the USA through Western Union and other money transfer businesses collect 50% tax sent back to the US Treasury. Stop all welfare administered through the NGO's. Reinstate bribery of public official and public official taking a bribe a capital punishment crime. Call lobbying money bribes.
