Like other states with “jock taxes,” California taxes non-resident pro athletes a percentage of their income based on “duty days” spent in the state. A duty day is a day in which the athlete performs work-related activities; for an NFL player, that includes not only the day of the game but also days traveling, practicing, attending meetings and otherwise preparing for the game.
The Patriots and Seahawks traveled to California on Sunday, meaning they’ll have at least eight duty days in California (Sunday to Sunday). To the extent they spend additional time after the Super Bowl in California for work, their duty day count will rise.
According to Sportico, Darnold’s bill to the Golden State will be $249,000 following Seattle’s latest championship.
The outlet stated the sizable check is due to California’s “jock taxes,” which force pro athletes who don’t live in the state to fork over percentages of their yearly income based on the number of days they work in California.

yeah. I had 2 uncles that used to live in CA. right below San Jose. both had small truck farms as they called them. they both LEFT the state back in the late 1980's. when I asked them why, they just said the state was going insane with taxes and other bullshit ( at least that is what they said about it )
ReplyDeleteseems like they knew what way the wind was going as they both had really nice farms there too. kind of sad as they lived there since the 1930's and thought it was the best place in the world at the time. according to one of my cousins still out that way, they put in a a few hundred homes where their farms used to be. story was they got a few million each for their farms. seems like 30 acres was worth a lot to the home builders.
It isn't just athletes. I work 100% out of state remote for a company based in California, and if I enter the state for work I have to pay them income taxes. We have a couple of major events each year in SoCal and I refuse to attend. When my manager asked why I told him they hold no business value for me, waste my time, and costs me taxes each year.
ReplyDeletePlayers also are able to claim disability compensation for injuries which are lifetime benefits as football is considered their primary job.
ReplyDeleteKamala/AOC ticket COULD win every state ... if we let ANTIFA do the vote count.
