I have a sibling I haven't spoken with in almost ten years because of politics. Not mine, and sorta not hers either. It's just that we're diametrically opposed on almost any issue you can think of. That fact and that alone prevents us from being brother and sister. That's because she 'can't like me' because of her views. She's definitely in with the TDS crowd, so that nothing he does will be 'enough'. It's too bad, too, because I miss her as a sister and a friend, but countless attempts to repave our common path have been for naught.
Last night Babs and I were sitting outside in the town square having cocktails and talking with a couple of Canadian snow birds. Pleasant talk comparing notes on our lives for twenty minutes and then I mention casually how Canada's been fuckin' the US on tarrifs for a long time and the guy got so bent out of shape he actually said 'I can't talk about stuff like that with you' and he ups and walks away, leaving his wife somewhat aghast.
Point being? In both cases, the art - or talent - of being able to have a spirited and lively debate is long forgotten in the vast majority of people. It seems they don't have a 'reasonable discourse bone' in their bodies. To all of our losses. It's sad, actually.

And if the Dims retake the house and the senate (I'd capitalize them both if they deserved it, but they don't - the do-nothing fuckwads) they'll just bring all this greenhouse bullshit back and we'll all be like an out-of-synch pendulum swinging in the dark. And you know damn well that's true, and that's why this midterm coming up is so important.
