I know it's not a new thing, but it seems like every day I see more and more people using their phones to pay for shit. Wether it's Apple Pay or Samsung Pay or some specific app, it seems to be more and more ubiquitous (Explain to Gavfin Newsome that that means 'commonplace' or 'ordinary') every day. It's ponderous ( tell Gavin that means 'something ya gotta think about') that so many people are so willing to blindly truct a technology that's so far over their friggin' heads with so much of their personal information. Maybe it's me. Maybe I have drifted slowly in to old fart territory, but I think putting your personal and financial information in the hands of some motherfucker half-way around the world ain't such a great idea. ReplyDeleteIt’s almost impossible to find a kid to regularly shovel your snow where I live in Michigan. Our daughter has been minding things for us since we follow the geese down to Okeechobee in winter, since she’s pushing 60: and has physical problems she’s been struggling. Luckily this year my neighbor is on winter layoff and has been doing it.

ReplyDeleteMy nephew would take his dad's snowblower to do the sidewalks on their street. He would also work a few driveways.
Grew up in upstate NY in the 50s. We village kids looked forward to snowstorms to earn money shovelling snow. Back then we usually got 5¢ to 10¢ for a sidewalk and 10¢ to 25¢ for an entire driveway. If you lucked out and got enough jobs and worked you ass off you could make a buck or two in a full day. We occasionally got stiffed by price cutters after the job was done.
ReplyDeleteWe use to kill it in Oakhurst, NJ back in the late 60's early 70's when it snowed. A couple bucks wouldnt get us off the couch, some days we'd score a couple hundred but had help like a snow blower and a leaf blower for dry snow days. My father flew for Mohawk Airlines ( remember them?) they went on strike one winter and it was a snowy one so the extra cash came in handy for my parents. It was nice to be able to pitch in.
