Maybe it's for a dramatic pause or to put emphasis on a point? This is truly a mystery that leaves every generation below them confused about what is meant by the dreaded "dot dot dot."Texting etiquette differs with every generation. Gen X and most Millennials use fairly proper grammar and punctuation throughout a text message exchange. Every new sentence starts with a capital letter, there are strategically placed Oxford commas to ensure there's little room for misunderstandings, and sentences end with an appropriate punctuation mark. Good for them. There's an article that goes in way too much depth on this subject here. Meanwhile, I'll keep doing what I do until I find a reason not to.Juss' sayin'...

Two things. This seems a bit petty to me, but it is what it is.
Also, I don't like this Department of War shit. I was perfectly okay with it when it was about Defense. I know I'm pickin' nits and shouldn't get all riled up about a word - that's what the pussy-hat people do - but none the less, why'd they decide it needed to be changed?

WTF is 'Second hand pipe'?
Scrolling around yesterday afternoon on the Post's website, these ads appeared after the story. As a former advertising/marketing guy, I look at this shit and really have to wonder what the fuck these people are thinking when they put these ads together. Are they all trying to appeal to morons?
...
Seems so, 'cause you'd have to be half an idiot to click on any one of them - at least that's my take on 'em. Fer instance - 'seven times stronger than Viagra? Does that mean you'd be limping around with a hardon for a week? It's all for click-bait bullshit websites anyway, so...

Greenland’s leader says there’s no room for ‘threats, pressure, and talk of annexation’ after President Donald Trump repeated his calls for the US to take over the Danish territory.
Greenland 'warned' Trump against any ‘fantasies’ of annexation. Trump’s comments after the US operation in Venezuela is raising concerns that something similar could happen with Greenland. How stupid is that?

Mark Kelly: When you join the military your life lives under a different code of rules, you agree to protect, defend and uphold the Constitution. What you do not do is tell your fellow soldiers to disregard orders because you may disagree. There is a chain of command for a reason & soldiers must follow that command otherwise there is no structure, no unity.
ReplyDeleteMark Kelly and others went seditious and some may say treason was committed, these retired military, CIA &FBI personal may have spoken using the 1st Amendment however if they were not military it would have been different for them.
Mark Kelly quoted the uniform military code of justice. There are videos of Pete Hegseth quoting the same parts of the uniform military code of justice. Are we demoting Hegseth too?
DeleteThis nonsense is getting out of control.
On the Venezuela stuff. There is plenty of videos of Trump saying that he only cares about the oil. Not interested in releasing political prisoners, freedom, he is not even talking about drug traffickers. He just cares about the oil.
This is certainly not what I voted for.
1 year in and we already bombed Iran, Nigeria, Venezuela, Yemen. Now he is talking about invading Greenland, Canada, Cuba, Nicaragua and Panama again. This is not looking great.
Secure the border, improve the economy, no foreign entanglements, deport criminals and that is IT.
Those BLS statistics: All I can say is watch out. If software developers are in such demand, why the layoffs at the big software companies and high failure to find jobs for Computer Science grads?
ReplyDeleteI hate to break it to you Joe, but it's always about the oil (or other minerals). We make those changes so our corporations and politically connected can benefit. We just say it's for the people to appease the masses.

I don't understand how people don't use adblockers, I don't get any ads, not on websites or youtube. I would lose my schit if I had to wade through all the ads as it's really bad.
ReplyDeleteuBlock Origin and SponsorBlock for YouTube gets rid of all that crap!
Yes of course it is partly about oil! Energy supply is the number one most important variable in the equation of the world, it underlies literally everything. Venezuela has the largest oil reserves on the planet, even more than Saudi Arabia. China gets a significant amount of its oil from Venezuela. By being able to cut off the supply to China, Trump can prevent China from attacking Taiwan by literally denying them the fuel for their warships. Among other things.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the impact on the drug trade is concerned, and it's not a done deal yet by any means, not only will we be saving lives (albeit in many cases useless ones) but we will be slowing down the cash going to political grifters and the Left, thus striking a hard blow against the corruption that's killing this country. And not in a partisan way, all sides are taking cash from the gangs.
And if Venezuela can be coerced back into stability, a few million natives of that country, both legal and illegal, will gladly to back there, impacting our problems with "migration". And if a side effect of all this is that we get to smack down the criminals running Mexico and Cuba, well then that's a win also.
It is NEVER about just one goal. And no, as Trump emphasizes, we are not at war with Venezuela. We are at war with corruption.
THIS. Trump is for America. Quit being a ninny Joe...
Delete"...why'd they decide it needed to be changed?"
ReplyDeleteJust changing it back. Why did they change War Department to Department of Defense to begin with? Now if they could make Istanbul Constantinople again we be in tall cotton.
It ain;t the oil, it's the moola. Follow the yellow brick road.
ReplyDeleteJpaul
For a long time, the professional ninnies have been able to FA without having to worry about any FO. Isn't it about time to start adding the FO? I don't care where they start, and Kelly is as good as any for that. Department of War was the original name, and was probably changed to sooth the nerves of the proto-ninnies of the time. Going back to the original may just be performance theater, or it may mean a change of mindset.

DeleteIf you read the applicable laws, Mark Kelly was in clear violation. Are we deciding that senators are above the law? Or only Democratic (sic) senators are above the law?
ReplyDeleteA Navy Captain is a pretty high rank, roughly equivalent to colonel in the army. Kelly knew he was violating the law, but he also assumed there would be no repercussions. Before he was a senator, he deliberately violated firearms purchasing laws. He was on a vendetta to show that firearms were too easy to acquire illegally. A number of FFL dealers called the ATF and the Obama administration told them to ignore it.
FAFO. At least they aren't reactivating him and court martial in him. The military would be will within their fights to toss him in prison. Besides, he won't miss his Navy pension. He made enough money selling out to the Chinese.
Yes Yes Yes
DeleteKelly crossed a line that his senate seat did not give him justification or cover to cross. It's one thing to call the president of another party an a-hole. It's quite another to go further and strongly suggest, along with others, to disobey him by telling military forces their CinC was issuing unlawful orders simply because your party didn't like the orders. It wasn't that he was quoting the UCMJ. He was telling military officers and enlisted that the (lawful) orders they were being given were unlawful and not to follow them. The law applies to democrats, too.
DeleteEasy pick about the oil, demorats think that way. Maybe Trump sent a message that Russian Defense, China Defense and any other is not so great. Got in and out in 3 hours, no casualties on our side. Cuba special forces were annihilated. Maduro lived in the middle of a Military stronghold, (defense wasn't so good) Maybe Putin Xi and Cuba should be a little worried about where they live!
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the other shit hole dictators who rely on them, think they are worried.
You should just switch parties.
'Twas originally named the Department Of War.
ReplyDeleteThe "second hand pipe" you asked about was probably irrigation pipe. The sign was on CA -99 in the Central Valley of California.
ReplyDeleteJust an aside, FWIW, it's "ellipsis". An "ellipse" is what objects in orbit draw...and honestly, most people use an ellipsis (meaning "something is left out") when they mean to use a dash (meaning "pause significantly") like I just did. Oh, what wondrous rich tools English provides!
ReplyDeleteGreenland and Canada next, bomb the crap outta those aholes and make it ours. We need it for our security, it's about time someone took the trash out!
