The Girl at the Desert Bus Stop ...

April 9, 1952. On a lonely stretch of Route 66 in Arizona, a teenage girl named Mary Lou waited at a sun‑bleached bus stop with a cardboard suitcase and a dream bigger than the desert around her. She had left her small town before dawn, determined to reach Los Angeles and become a telephone operator - a job that promised independence and a paycheck of her own. The bus arrived late, dust swirling around its wheels. The driver asked, “You sure about this, kid?” She nodded. When she stepped onto that bus, she wasn’t just leaving home - she was stepping into her future.
This is the original print. The one on top was colorized by me...

  3. I've been messing with cordage since forever. I was a Roughneck, sash cord was an everyday thing, a Roughneck without a one handed operating knife was slow. There are the qualifiers. The Gnot on the sootcase is way beyond me, BUT,I actually Do need new glasses and.my monitor screen is a Kindle, so, the knot might be Fabluss,,, and I just can't see it.
    Now, who Is she?.
It never occurred to me that anyone would ever Aspire to the lofty goal of Telephone Operator, but,YaKnow, there was a time in America when that would have been the beginning of building yourself up,makin your mark.on the world, independence, autonomy, ..Get established, build a reputation, stay and work up, get a transfer and let the job take you where you want to go.
Then some A-Hole patents a switch and your career gets shitcanned..
I'm gonna say she'da made a fine operator. Anyone who could manage the Gnot on that Sootcase could damn well deal with a switchboard.
