It's not just Florida where the meat prices are crazy, but...

One frustrated shopper recently took to sociall nedia to air their grievances after picking up a prime tenderloin steak at a Publix store in Yulee, Florida. A photo of the package showed the meat priced at a jaw-dropping $61.49 - or $49.99 per pound. 'This is criminal,' the customer wrote.

They continued: 'Not only is this meat mediocre, it’s ridiculously priced. What the hell, Publix?! This is the store in Yulee, FL. Only tenderloin on the shelf at all.' Other users were equally shocked by the steep pricing. 'You can get a full ribeye or tenderloin dinner with table bread, 2 sides and softdrinks in Florida at a Outback, texas roadhouse or Longhorn for $26 - $31,' one wrote.
'Publix is wildly overpriced,' someone else chimed in.  Another said that meat isn't the only Publix product growing in price: 'If you think that's bad, a jar of Planters mixed nuts is going for almost $20. Mayo is pushing $10 a jar. Insane, and unsustainable.' Indeed, Publix might be losing its customers to other major grocers in the state - especially ALDI.

Publix is a privately held company that is primarily owned by its employees and former employees (about 80%), with the remainder owned by the founding Jenkins family.

  1. Tuesday, Filets were $33.99/lb. at the Harris Teeter in Beaufort, SC. There's a Publix right across the highway, I'll check there tomorrow. Both chains compete for higher income costumers, especially HT, which is owned by Kroger.

As an aside, the HT has a wine & beer bar. It stays busy, open from 11-9. The shopping carts have two 3" diameter holders for drinks.

  2. Don't like the price of something at Publix? Here is the secret solution: Don't buy it.

  3. Wow, I thought the little steak I had last night for $13+ was bad.

  4. Somebody ought to find a way to make Texas Wild Boar palatable and marketable. It sure as hell is plentiful.

  5. First, that's 'Greenwise' which is 'organic' non-GMO, non-antibiotic, non-steroid, non-anything else, beef. Which is 2-3 times more expensive because the cows are more expensive.

That piece, in 'regular' non-organic, antibiotic, steroided beef is around $15 a pound.

Second, the fucking stoners and commies in Florida voted in a $15/hr minimum wage a couple years ago and the fallout from that is biting everyone. Publix is trying to keep a full staff. Want prices to fall? Get rid of over-fed min wage. Make min wage $0.00.

Publix is still the cleanest, best run store chain I've ever seen. Milk is now under $4.00 a gallon, eggs are down, prices across the board are down overall.

Mayo? We're still paying for the Biden administration whacking 150 million chickens in the last 4 months of the administration, which picked up steam after the first Tuesday in November 2024.

Beef prices are holding, but are way up because the Biden Administration killed off whole herds due to suspicion of disease, not actually with proof of disease. That group of jackasses also cancelled grazing rights, water rights and land crossing heights, while causing the price of fuel and feed to skyrocket. Meanwhile the 4 main meatpackers, all Dem controlled, colluded to hold intake prices at an all-time low while jacking up the sale price of products. So a lot of ranchers culled their herds and tried to stay above water.

Herd will come back, takes 2-3 years. Price of fuel and feed are coming down, so there's that. But... until those grazing, water and crossing rights are restored, the huge herds out-west will never come back. To restore those herds, it will take 4-6 years. So, yes, beef is up. Especially 'greenwise' organic meats.

  6. On the 31st Publix in Okeechobee was advertising beef at about $32 a pound. They had a BOGO on pork loins. They were $5.19 a pound, with bogo $2.60 a pound, not outrageous.
