If you're a 'Yute', this effects you. Retailers across the state, such as Walmart, will be forced to comply with a new law that affects certain purchases customers make. And, the policy means that supermarket staffers cannot presume someone is over the age of 21. The rule affects shoppers who buy goods from the 59 Walmart-owned stores across Utah.
Under the new law, a shopper who is 80 years old will be required to show ID. However, retail staffers are not required to scan a person’s ID card. Just looking at the card and doing quick math suffices.
ID checks must also be carried out at restaurants and bars, according to the state’s Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services. Some establishments will have to go one step further.
Restaurants with an area that is separate from where customers dine must have scanners in place. Those wanting to go to bars across Utah must scan their ID cards before entering.

New York State has been doing that for years.
ReplyDeleteMormonland has always been a difficult place to buy alcohol or get a decent cup of coffee.
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that the voter who does not know how to get an ID now no longer can buy alcohol?
ReplyDeleteLand of the free they say...
ReplyDeleteNew Mexico has done it for years on alcohol (pisses me off when we stop in Santa Rosa on the way to AZ) and NC and KS Wal-marts will do it if buying dip or cigarettes. I know this from experience.
ReplyDeleteI scanned two spray cans of claret red paint at Walmarts and a worker bustled over and demanded that I show her my ID. I had no idea what she was talking about and when she started yelling I decided to buy my paint elsewhere. It was amusing, in hindsight.
