The Miccosukee Reserved Area Amendments Act would have added the Osceola Camp, a small village of members of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, to the reservation in the Everglades. It would have also taken steps to protect the camp from flooding risks. Currently, the land is a special-use permitted area in Everglades National Park.
In the veto, Trump said the tribe "has actively sought to obstruct reasonable immigration policies that the American people decisively voted for when I was elected." The tribe is a plaintiff in a suit against the federal government and the state of Florida, arguing the state failed to conduct an environmental review on the land where Alligator Alcatraz is located. An environmental study is required to comply with federal laws.
The Osceola Camp is nothing more than a small, out of the way tourist trap that contributes nothing to region, has unlimited tax-free status, and, to be realistic, is a bit of a shithole. The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida owns a casino and is far from poor by any definition.
Payback's a bitch, wouldn'tcha say, Tonto?

I have "native-american" fatigue to go with my "African-american," "illegal"and "Somalian" fatigue. GTFO
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with it as long as they keep taking it out on New York. They never signed a treaty they didn't break, I don't live there any more, and as long as nobody is getting killed, I say have at it.
DeleteEvery time I hear the crap about the peaceful nature loving indians I point to the slaughter the Sioux inflicted on the Pawnee in south central Nebraska. The Sioux were so peaceful the killed the women, children and old men who had stayed in camp while the men went out hunting. If you read the real history of indians in the Americas the amount of tribes wiped out by other tribes only for them to be wiped out by another tribe is legion. The fact they continue to suck off the government teat instead of going out on their own is all I need to know about them. Hard and fast welfare queens.
ReplyDeleteYeah, f them. The largest corridor for illegals and drugs through the southern border is through Navaho reservations and we can't do dick about it because they're 'sovreign' (outside most of the US fed laws.)
