There's two sides to this phrase. First, "Jelly side up" refers to the classic debate on how to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, meaning the slice with jelly is facing up (towards the sky/roof of your mouth) rather than down, and it's often discussed in terms of practicality, taste, and even luck (like landing "jelly-side up" after a fall). Second, and much more relevant to my life is the fact that I'm a "Jelly side down" kinda guy. If I drop anything, it's aways gonna land with the messier side always hitting the floor, no matter what it is I do drop. I'm fairly confident you can relate. Juss' sayin'...
