A somewhat selfish reflection on Thanksgivings growing up...

Somehow I think you guys can relate to this. In our house when I was a kid (late 50's, early 60's) I remember my mother and both grandmothers starting to prep stuff for Thanksgiving dinner two days in advance. Nana Min prepping a lasagne, Mom making real stuffing with some kinda liver or some shit in it (never great) and Nana Jackson drinking Rock&Rye's watching. The meal would take forever to make, and we'd all eat it all in about 20 minutes.

This was our last full dinner as a family. The coolest thing was, the adults would stay the table after dinner for hours and hours, drinking coffee and Sambuca and telling stories, and sooner or later a deck of cards and a tray of cookies would be out. Where were the kids? In the kitchen cleaning up and foolin' around. Great times, great memories...

  1. That's really cool you have that photo. I don't know when the last time my parents had all of their kids at the same table. I'm not sure when I had all of my kids at the same table. Certainly don't have a picture of either event.
