Yeah - us Boomers are an annoying lot, aren't we? Well, the kids think so,, anyway...

It’s not that us boomers are bad people. In fact, many of our values are admirable. But the world we grew up in simply doesn’t exist anymore. Ouir ways of thinking, communicating, and even relaxing were shaped in a time before smartphones, mental health awareness, and a gig economy.
That’s where the tension begins. Boomers often act out of love and experience, but to younger generations, our habits can feel outdated or even dismissive. Whether it’s giving constant advice, misunderstanding technology, or refusing to admit we’re wrong, these small behaviors can create a surprising amount of friction. According to a nice little website called vegoutmag.com, this is the kind of shit we do that makes them crazy:

1. Giving “unsolicited advice” about everything
2. Treating technology like a nuisance instead of a tool
3. Using outdated language that unintentionally offends
4. Assuming hard work automatically leads to success
5. Turning every conversation into a nostalgia session
6. Equating financial stability with moral superiority
7. Thinking manners are universal and timeless
8. Refusing to admit when we’re wrong

If you’re from a younger generation, the next time your parents lecture you about “how things used to be,” pause for a moment. Try to hear the care behind the criticism. And if you’re a boomer reading this, know that your experience is still deeply valuable - but only when shared with humility and openness.
As I often remind myself: love across generations requires patience, humor, and the willingness to admit that maybe, just maybe, we’re all a little bit annoying sometimes.

  1. I like to think of it as "entering my Colorful Phase."

  2. Now do the list of what GenZ (etc) do that annoys the boomers.......

Short answer: if it annoys you, that's YOUR problem. If it annoys me, it's MINE.

  3. I refuse to be guilted into being contrite around a bunch of narcissistic AH (GenZ). They decide to redefine terms and then pretend we are evil because we used that term. F'em. Consider the thunbs-up emoji which we mean "all's good" and they choose to misinterpret it to be something evil. F'em. You want to be offended for being a dumb asset, then be offended.

I love when I hear some young failure say, "okay boomer." Because it means I've found some half educated twat that refuses to take responsibility for their own life and prefers to whine, complain, and blame others for their misery. They are the type of person who, after losing the civil war, would ride a horse, wear a sheet, and burn a cross.

  4. Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn. I can be the grumpy old codger that I've earned the right to be. My flip phone cell phone stays on my desk in the shop office turned off and if someone wants to speak to me they can come find me or call the shop. And I'm not available after six pm. I despise those who can't put down their smart phones and can't stop showing pictures that I have absolutely no desire to see. My world still exists for me so the hell with those who can't handle that.

  5. My gen z step kid has her hand out and has most of my retirement for a bigger house because her mother is a soft touch and ignored me when I said "no". She may think I'm old and grumpy but I am the first (and still working full time) and have good reason to be the second. I do, however, like that the generation are leaning conservative, especially the guys.

  6. OT: Has anyone noticed how increasingly the official names for demographic generations vary from one another, and from the reality of any specific family?

Tidy up or pay the fiddler...

This house is about four blocks from my house, and, yes, it is a shithole. A Villager has been given one week to remove debris from his prop...
