The actual old-school definition of 'brain drain' has to do with the migration of skilled human resources for trade, education, etc. Trained health professionals are needed in every part of the world. However, better standards of living and quality of life, higher salaries, access to advanced technology and more stable political conditions in the developed countries attract talent from less developed areas.
The more definitive, newer definition is better demonstrated in the way we use our phones - especially for social media. We have become so addicted to what other people are saying and doing that are losing our abilities to think for ourselves. It's impossible to stand in a line or a group anywhere that the people surrounding us don't have their eyes to the small screen, scrolling along in the fear they might miss something.
This feeling often stems from a desire for social validation and acceptance, reinforced by social media platforms that trigger the brain's reward system.
The fear of missing out and negative judgment can lead to excessive focus on others' lives, while child-like behavior or experiences of people-pleasing can also contribute to this inability to think for ourselves...
