Babs and I had a rather - dare I say - heated discussion yesterday about the idea that someone would pay 50 G's for a painting the Magic Brush whisperer guy finished in 25 minutes.
Her argument is that the guy's talent was unique, and as such, is as important as it is. I didn't disagree with her as much as I tried to make the point that anything - whether it's a painting or gold bar or a rib-eye steak - is only as valuable at any level someone is willing to pay the price someone else sets.
You can get a steak at OutBack for $ 25.00 or go to Capitol Grille and pay $95.00. It's not that the steaks taste that much different, it's how they are presented and priced and the price people are willing to pay for the upgrade in taste. It's called relative value - or at least that what I remember from Economics 101.

There will never be term limits if that decision is to be made by the people who are sucking at the Government's tit for 50 years or more. The perks alone will preevent therm from ever voting against their own selfish interests.

New Jersey residents paid more than $18 billion in school taxes last year - a $500 million increase from the year before as overall property taxes continued to rise, according to an analysis of state data. School taxes, which are used to fund a community’s public schools, are usually the largest portion of residents’ property tax bills in New Jersey. I just got my property tax bill here in Florida. It went up from $1,890.00 to $ 2,067.00.
In Jersey my last tax bill - for the year 2013 - was $ 22,400.00. I paid almost a month what I pay a year here, there is no discernable difference in the services provided, and it's a little warmer here than there. Juss' sayin'...

I don't need the two G's as much as somebody else might, but I'd obviously take it - I just don't like when he does shit like this. Part of the reason we have so much debt as a nation is shit exactly akin to this. Remember the COVID 'stimulus checks'? More than 476 million payments totaling $814 billion in financial relief went to households 'impacted by the pandemic'. Where the fuck ya think all that money came from? They borrowed it. Doesn't make sense, does it...

My 2 cents – our property taxes in Palm Beach County purchased in 2021 are more than the taxes on the home we still own in NJ (similar size home on 3X the land), I imagine the property taxes on our Florida home were A LOT less in 2013, when Joe purchased his home.
ReplyDeleteI hope Trump sues the BBC and wins. It's the only way the US is going to get some of that dodgy USAID money back from them.
ReplyDeleteBut everybody loved the covid checks, socialism right there. When gov bails out corporations it's a good thing, more socialism.
ReplyDeleteTerm limits: they exist now. A majority of voters don't want to enforce them. They can; they won't. Adding an external limit, beyond that imposed by exercising the vote, infantilizes the voters.
ReplyDeleteProperty taxes: yep. Lots of local factors (when bought, where, etc) but in general...the frozen North wants around 10-30x the taxes the South charges.
Container house: dumb as dirt design. They put a patio INTO the living space (or at least so it appears), converting 400 sq ft into less than 300. I get the attraction, and one could indeed live in such a small space, even permanently (rather than as a place to camp out). But losing 50-100 sf off a small footprint is just silly.
There is no way that is a 1931 Chevy. I don't think it is even an earlier Chevy. From what I can see of the radiator shell. It looks like it is a Chrysler product from the mid 20's.
