Police in Tampa say a 30-year-old woman was arrested outside a downtown marketing firm after hanging a giant banner from the company’s parking structure that read, “PROMOTION PENDING — ASK YOUR BOSS WHY.”
According to the Tampa Police Department, the suspect, identified as Carly Mendez, had been in a relationship with one of the firm’s employees until a messy breakup earlier this year. After discovering her ex was dating again, she reportedly began sending anonymous emails to his coworkers — before escalating to what police described as a “public HR nightmare.”
Witnesses said Mendez arrived around 8 a.m. with a step ladder, duct tape, and a speaker playing “Before He Cheats.” When her ex confronted her, she allegedly threw an iced coffee and shouted, “I’m just climbing the corporate ladder, baby!”
Officers arrived minutes later to find her taking selfies with the banner as confused employees looked on from the windows. She was arrested for disorderly conduct and trespassing.
One bystander summed it up: “It’s the first time I’ve ever seen someone get fired, dumped, and promoted all in one morning.”
