Buying Big Macs with SNAP? Serioiusly?

In the last two years, taxpayers spent $524 million in food stamp payments mostly for fast-food restaurants...

Of that, about 90% - or $475.2 million - was spent at fast-food restaurants in California from June 2023 through May 2025, according to data from the office of Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa.
The intent behind the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, was to provide meat, fruits, and vegetables to needy families. However, Ernst’s office contends that Congress created new loopholes in 1977 for “hot food,” meaning food stamps could be used to buy food at restaurants. Currently, nine states participate in the SNAP Restaurant Meals Program.
The intent was to allow homeless individuals who lack access to kitchens or food preparation facilities to purchase prepared meals using food stamps. However, over the years, eligibility was expanded to include disabled and elderly individuals, along with their spouses.

This is insanity. The program should be limited to buying fresh food - groceries, meats and vegetables ONLY. With the pending revamping and recertification that will hopefully happen soon, eligibilities will be limited to single individuals and familys that meet the new criteria only. No matter what the Government says it will do for some, it ends up screwing all of  us who actually pay for it. Enough is enough. Big Mac meals and food stamps? Jeez...

  2. Not buying it. After paying drug dealers, hair/nail salons, tattoo parlors, liquor stores, strippers, and bling dealers, there cannot be 90% left to buy food. No way.

  3. At least the old fashioned Hobo's and Vagabond's knew how to cook over an open fire. The modern day BUMS are obligated to depend on the rest of society for everything. Stop enabling them!

  4. The talking heads on TV are constantly claiming that there are "food deserts" or new locally grown produce shops that are super popular, all of which seem to lies. Nobody is subsisting on kale, okra and zucchini.

Tidy up or pay the fiddler...

This house is about four blocks from my house, and, yes, it is a shithole. A Villager has been given one week to remove debris from his prop...
