A study found a significant reduction in both use-of-force reports and citizen complaints against officers who wore body cameras. Body-worn cameras can improve transparency and public trust by providing a clear record of police interactions.
Some studies suggest that body cameras can lead to a reduction in use of force and complaints, though more research is needed to fully understand their effectiveness. Body camera footage can be used to hold officers accountable for their actions and can help prevent negative incidents, while conversely protecting them from flase accusations. They're big help to prosecutors also...

Body cams work...as long as the public has unfettered access to the footage. Cam footage that the police can control and edit at will is pointless. Cam technology is like ALL technology. It's neutral. Who controls it makes ALL the difference.
ReplyDeleteOf course, when those body cameras "accidentally" turn off, or the foot is "accidentally lost, then...
ReplyDeleteNot that "law enforcement" would ever let any such thing happen!!!
Which, in my opinion, should be considered destruction of evidence with the corresponding assumption that the offended party is correct with no rebuttal.
DeleteThe other unstated reason why body cams work is that it's no longer a 'he-said,she-said". Think about how much all the minority whining about police brutality dropped off after a few outspoken individuals ran to the press and then the cops posted the video.
