This image captures the essence of NYC in the post-WWII era when escaping to the beach was the only option for overheated adults - kids could open fire hydrants and play in the streets. It does a great job of displaying what could be considered a historic moment at Coney Island Beach in New York in the summer of 1954.
The photo (originally in B&W - colorized by me for effect) features a model named Lois McLohon posing as a 'bathing beauty' for a Daily News photographer, with the iconic Coney Island beach and skyline in the background. It was published as a "cheesecake photo" in the newspaper's centerfold.
Coney Island is a renowned amusement area in Brooklyn, known for its boardwalk, sand beach, rides, and various attractions. The area gained significant fame in the early 20th century with the opening of Luna Park and Dreamland.

it looks very much as though she's lying (uncomfortably) on one of the jetties that were in Brighton Beach and the photo reversed; I remember this very clearly as a 4-year-old kid in the summer after V-E day.
