Hurricane Melissa intensified into a major Cat 5 hurricane over night. According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, the hurricane is likely to bring life-threatening and catastrophic flash flooding and landslides to parts of Jamaica and southern Hispaniola, which is made up of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
If you've never lived through a Cat 5, let me enlighten you, having experienced at least three of them. The barometric pressure drops so low it's almost impossible to swallow. You head and lungs feel like you're under 30 feet of water. The howling of the wind is similar to the sound of a jet engine firing up ten feet away. 2x4's and debris go flying into stuff at 150+ mph - that's how most of the damage and injuries occur.
The amount of rain associated with some hurricanes - like Melissa - is almost incomprehensible. They're calling for as much as 30"-40" of rain in just 36 hours. Nothing on earth can contain that much water.
It sucks being caught in a storm like this. I feel for the people in Kingston and especially those who live in the mountains. They're gonna get their asses kicked...

Remember these? You'd bite the cap off, drink the super-sweet liquid center and then chew the waxy bottle like it was gum. I once left a full red bottle in the pocket of my white shorts. Ref #13... Too bad about Quiznos. We loved their subs. None of the chain sub restaurants even come close. Firehouse Subs is the closest, but still not as good.
