Up until the start of World War I, people didn't care what color their kids' diapers were, because it was the freaking 19th century. What color the fabric is under the baby poop is the last thing on your mind when you have to deal with insanely high infant mortality rates, the Civil War, cholera and roving packs of baby-eating wolves - look, the old days were hard, OK?.
Regardless of whether pink and blue flip-flopped at some point or remained relatively steady, both two diffeerent studies agreed that the now-accepted color dictate only grew stronger over the 20th century, reflecting Americans’ preferences as interpreted by manufacturers and retailers. “It could have gone the other way,” Paoletti said.
In postwar America, young baby boomers (generally defined as those born between 1946 and 1964 - you kowq, us) were raised in gender-specific clothing. Boys dressed like their fathers, girls like their mothers. Girls had to wear dresses to school, though unadorned styles and tomboy clothes were acceptable for recreation.
Nowadays that shit just don't work as much any more - especially with all the gender-fluidity bullshit that's been flying around for the last 20 years. If you're gonna blame anybody, you might start with Ru Paul and whoever the jerkoff was that thought putting him on TV was a good idea.

As someone who was born in the early 60s, what shocks me and disappoints me tremendously, is that by the 80s at least, we had come to a point in this country where it was OK to be a feminine man or a masculine woman and everyone still treated you like a human being (for the most part). It was ok for a girl to play with "male" toys and ok for boys to play with things traditionally for "girls." In the end, you did what you did and that was all there was. Nobody DEMANDED that if a boy suddenly showed an interest in dolls, he were obviously in the "wrong body" and similarly for girls showing interest outside of the "norm." So 40 years later and nobody is just allowed to be who they are, finding interest in whatever they are interested in, dressing as they wish, etc. NOW the chemical castration must happen, the genital mutilation, the puberty blocking and destruction of reproductive organs and one's future, etc. How in the hell did what was serious progress degenerate into this?? And yes, bigMike and his Kenyan husband might have played a significant role....
