Trump has this Maduro asshole crapping his trousers. America's military is preparing to seize ports and airfields in Venezuela, it's reported - as Donald Trump declared a full-scale war on drug cartels.
The President stunned Washington by formally declaring the US is in a “non-international armed conflict” with the Latin American “terrorist organisations”. He means all the cartels, of course, but specifically he means Maduro. He doesn't like the guy, and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
Maduro's a thug and an indicted international criminal, so it's safe to say anything we - that's the editorial 'we' - do to him whether it's in country or not, is justified.

There may be a little more going on here than meets the eye. Venezuela's next door neighbor Guyana has an oil field discovery in their territorial waters in the Gulf of America that will put them in OPEC. Suddenly Venezuela has decided that a lot of Guyana territory is actually theirs and keeps threatening to invade. It could be that Trump is using drug trafficking as an excuse to get assets in place to keep a lid on Venezuela. Don't be surprised if a major hostile nation (China, Iran...) gets involved. There is a big power play unfolding in the north end of South America that could turn into an ignition point right in our backyard.
ReplyDeleteSorry, this is about OIL, not drugs. If Trump cared about drugs, he'd be going after the CIA and their global distribution network.
ReplyDeleteNot everything is about oil. The US did not benefit from Iraqi oil (Europe sure as hell did). Taking out a communist in South America is sufficient in and of itself. The Monroe Doctrine is still a thing (at least with a Republican president.)
