One of the things I've learned over my years here in the Sunshine State is that 'Florida Man' will never disappoint you on the weirdness scale. Today's feature comes from the Orlando police who say a man was taken into custody after a full-blown meltdown inside a Starbucks when he refused to leave a tip - and then refused to leave the store.
According to the arrest report, the man became enraged after being prompted by the touchscreen to “add a tip” with his order. Witnesses claim he shouted, “I’m not tipping for someone to push a button!” before slamming his iced latte onto the counter.
When staff asked him to calm down, he allegedly swept an entire pastry display onto the floor, smashed a tip jar against the wall, and then tried to climb behind the counter. Customers fled as the man hurled napkin dispensers and shouted, “If you want a tip, get a real job!”
Police arrived minutes later and found him pacing the store, dripping coffee down his shirt. He was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest. Damages to the store were estimated at over $2,500.

Imagine that, a customer that fits starbucks customer profile causing a disturbance at the very place designed to make him feel good about himself. This is the customer starbucks wants, while almost vilifying the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteThere IS an option on EVERY checkout mechanism to leave NO TIP. I'm pissed at every checkout that defaults to 15% or more, but this clearly mentally ill clown needs to not go out when it's that time of the month...
ReplyDeleteHe/She/It is lucky He/She/It didn't catching a lead bumblebee....
ReplyDeleteBe honest: other than being a freak, gotta hand it to him to actually do what quite a few of us would secretly like to do in that situation. I too am tired of people expecting a tip "for pushing a button".
