Where would we be if it weren't for this guy?

He wasn’t a scientist. Not an engineer. Just a man with a wrench, and a mind that wouldn’t quit. In the 1930s, when most believed refrigerated transport was impossible, one man was quietly rewriting the rules - not from a lab, but from his garage.
This is Frederick McKinley Jones. Born in 1893, orphaned at 9, and armed with nothing more than an 8th-grade education — spent his youth fixing radios, engines, and anything that sparked curiosity.
But in 1938, he built something that would change how the world eats: The first automatic refrigeration system for trucks.
It didn’t just keep food cold. It transformed farming, medicine, and grocery stores. It made cross-country transport of perishables possible. And when World War II broke out, his invention became a lifeline — preserving rations, medical supplies, and saving soldiers far from home.

His company, Thermo King, became a global force. By the time he passed in 1961, he held over 60 patents — and had reshaped global food logistics forever. And yet, most still don’t know his name. No titles. No degrees. Just brilliance, perseverance, and purpose.
