Teaching kids to be responsible with guns? Tennessee is leading the way...

The Political Insider - Tennessee has made history by becoming the first U.S. state to require gun safety education in all public and charter schools starting in the 2025–2026 school year. This groundbreaking law ensures that students, including kindergarteners, receive age-appropriate lessons on identifying firearms, avoiding handling them, and reporting them to trusted adults.
The initiative addresses the state’s high rates of unintentional shootings among children and reinforces personal responsibility and safety. Republicans praise the law as a common-sense measure that protects children while respecting families’ rights and Second Amendment values.

  2. Tennessee should mandate gun safety classes for adults as well, too many gun idiots out there that should not be allowed near a gun.

    2. As a Tennessean, I'm conflicted by this one. Teaching gun safety in a country where nearly anyone can own a gun is necessary. Kids are curious and don't have a mature understanding of danger. Some will be in homes where guns are a forbidden topic. So, a unit at school gets the minimum information to everyone as a baseline (good) and as a secondary benefit requires teachers (mostly anti-gun Democrats) to talk about guns in a neutral light (at least). But. Like sex ed, the potential for perverting the message is high and a standard message is bound to ignore personal ethics which are best taught by parents and other social institutions like churches.

On balance, this seems good - but I wish it weren't necessary.
