Sometimes I just don't get it - whatever 'it' is...

Case in point? There are cartoonists out there that 'over message' us with some of their work. Is it virtue signalling or am I just dim?

This cartoon is by Tom Gauld, likely from his collection "You're All Just Jealous of My Jetpack". The cartoon sort of kinda humorously depicts a person's reliance on books, even for survival. See what I mean? I have no idea what the guy's trying to tell me.
Are there people out there somewhere who are critically addicted to books to the point where they're killing themselves just to keep reading? I'm sure if I sat down with the guy and he explained whatever the fuck it is he's trying to say here, I might get it sooner or later, but for now, WTF?

Have ya ever spent any time thinking about the derivation of words? Especially words that the spelling just doesn't make any sense phonetically? Rough, tough and enough jump to mind quickly. In who's mind does the combination of u-g-h sound like an eff? Really, WTF were they thinking? There are so many more words that don't sound like they're spelt, Juss' don't make sense.

There are days, like yesterday - and today especially - when I just can't get any kinda mojo working over 'current affairs'.
The news is the same bullshit drumbeat as any other day, and it seems like you'd havta really dig to find something worthy of commentary. Ya know what I mean?

And then ya come across something like this. There is no other explanation for this guy drawing this cartoon except to piss any pro-Trumper off, and they wonder why they (the 'other side') get no respect from us? We're not the over-educated sissyfied tightass fuckwads with too much time on our hands. We're the working overtime solid god-and-family folks who are the true backbone of this country.

The plane at the top of the picture is the immense Boeing 777X, the largest twin-engine aircraft on the planet, still undergoing testing and promising to redefine long-haul travel. Just below, different versions of the 737 MAX, the airline's favorite for short- and medium-haul flights. As for the big one? I wouldn't get on that motherfucker for free. Can you imagine what the boarding and de-planing clusterfuck would be like? No thanks.

  2. are you sure that Bruce Springsteen image is not another fake allegation spreading on Facebook because of confirmation bias of those circulating it? Lots of hits on an internet search suggest that never happened.

  3. People who tell book lovers that "other things are more important than books" aren't giving us any real news. They are saying "Stop reading and pay attention to ME." And, as all book lovers know, once fire hazards can be eliminated by getting them out of our homes, this suggestion is always best ignored. People like that are not among the things that are more important than finishing even a second-rate book.

  4. This Tom Gauld cartoon humorously illustrates the idea that intellectual pursuits, while valuable, cannot sustain life in a practical sense.
    Meaning of the Cartoon:
The initial dialogue sets up a clear conflict: the practical assertion that "You can't survive on books alone," and the protagonist's optimistic, perhaps naive, counter-argument, "Maybe I can!".
The protagonist's belief that "the answer will be in one of my books" highlights a reliance on theoretical knowledge over real-world application, suggesting that solutions to fundamental needs might not be found solely within the pages of literature.
The final panel, showing the protagonist's skeleton surrounded by books and the declaration "I regret nothing!", delivers the dark punchline. It demonstrates the literal consequence of attempting to live solely on intellectual sustenance – a failure to meet basic survival needs – while simultaneously poking fun at the stubborn dedication of some intellectuals or bibliophiles.
In essence, the cartoon is a witty commentary on the importance of balancing intellectual life with the practicalities of existence, and a humorous jab at the extreme dedication one might have to books or abstract knowledge at the expense of real-world survival.

Anon above is correct - at least 2 boarding ramps. Can be a bit confusing and the waiting room crew have to be very clear and directive about who goes where. That photo is likely the south end of Boeing Field in Tukwilla, Wa., south of Seattle. I-5 runs just on the east side of the field well above runway level so you can get a great view of airplanes in final assembly and delivery from there.
Don't know about the "o-g-h" thing, buy the "y" in phrases like "Ye Old Pub," is an obsolete English letter called a "thorn" and is pronounced as "th." So, "Ye Old Pub" is properly pronounce "The Old Pub." Odd, but lots of lost and obsolete letters in most languages.

  9. Regarding constitutional rights of non-citizens, it's an iffy thing. Depends on what the visa rules are. Most visas say you can't be an anti-USA piece of shit and keep the visa. It's been that way for a very long time. It's just that this current administration and Rubio are really really enforcing it.

You know who else's administrations enforced the rules about speaking against the government? Clinton's admin. The Obama admin. The Auto-Pen admin. Just Rubio and Trump's administration is getting all the press.
