Even though kids are no longer drinking as much as we did when we were too young to buy it for ourselves, underage drinking is still a serious public health problem in the United States. Many kids still drink, and when they do, they often binge drink. Underage drinking poses a range of risks and negative consequences. It is dangerous because it is a significant factor in the deaths of people younger than age 21 in the United States each year. This includes deaths from motor vehicle crashes, homicides, alcohol overdoses, falls, burns, drowning, and suicides.
Drinking alcohol can cause youths (Did I say 'Yutes'?) to have accidents and get hurt. Drinking can also lead to poor decisions about taking risks, including unsafe sexual behavior, drinking and driving, and aggressive or violent behavior.
Underage binge drinking is associated with an increased likelihood of being the victim or perpetrator of interpersonal violence because kids are just as likely as their adult role models to develop 'liquid balls', but are less equipped to actually handle it.
It increases the risk of alcohol problems later in life. Research shows that people who start drinking before the age of 15 are at a higher risk for developing alcohol use disorder (AUD) later in life. Research also shows that people’s brains keep developing well into their 20s. Alcohol can alter this development, potentially affected structure and function.

I'd rather kids get hooked on alcohol than getting hooked on whatever the left is telling them! The latter is incurable.
ReplyDeleteGrocery store we prefer had an entire aisle for wine. Just wine. Governor increased sin tax. Alcohol is now too expensive. Wine aisle down to half of what it was 2 years ago. Pretty sure people switched to marijuana they grow themselves. Would not be surprised to see the state actually lost tax revenue in their greed.
ReplyDeleteI think it's social media that is contributing to less drinking.
ReplyDeleteTimes change and traditions die - Dopers today don't seem to go on drug crazed midnight jaunts to the Fast-Mart looking for Boone's Farm and Krispy Kreme sugar donuts the way they did back in the day.
