
This was the first complete detailed cutaway of the B-29 to be approved by the War Department in Juily, 1945. In the nose section sit the bombardier, pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer, radio operator, and navigator.
A crew member crawls through the long tube which spans the two bomb bays and connects the nose and midsection. At the far end of the tube is the gunner's compartment, with three sighting blisters. Next is the crew compartment, with bunks.
The tail gunner is stationed at the extreme end of the fuselage, with an unpressurized tail cone separating him from the midship sections. In the foreground is an X-ray perspective of one of the engine nacelles.
