So what did you learn in school today, Joanie?

Sleep training for high school students involves teaching them healthy sleep habits and strategies to improve sleep quality and duration, as many teens struggle with getting enough sleep. This can involve adjusting sleep schedules, optimizing the sleep environment, and managing factors that disrupt sleep. Some schools are even incorporating sleep curriculum into health classes to address this issue.
Why is it important? Here's a breakdown of how some people - who laughingly call themselves 'educators' - think this kind of 'sleep training' is appropriate for high schoolers:
Biological Shift: Puberty causes teens to naturally stay up later and wake up later.
Sleep Deprivation: Many teens are chronically sleep-deprived, which can negatively impact their physical and mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being.
Mental Health: Sleep deprivation is linked to increased risk of anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges.
Academic Performance: Sleep is crucial for learning, memory consolidation, and focus, all of which are essential for academic success.
Safety: Sleep deprivation can impair judgment and reaction time, making it dangerous to drive or engage in other activities requiring alertness

Is this a one-off, one-day, one class thing or is it an actual subject like history and geography and Latin (Yes - I fuckin' had Latin freshman year), and if it is a full-blown subject, WTF could the final exam be? I defer to you guys for that answer...
...

This is my answer to any
pop quiz on that subject.

  1. hell, all thru high school I worked summers with my Dad. he ran a concrete crew. I had no problem sleeping after a days work. trust me on this. as he always said, if you can last the first week, you make the summer. used to hate him for this
crap as everyone else was going to shore or mountains on vacation. I went to work instead. years later. I realized just what he did for me back then. by my senior year, I was 6'2" 190 hard and in better shape than my DIs where when Iwent in the army. knew how to handle myself around men. and kick ass if need be.
sleeping is not something I ever had a problem doing.

    1. Well done you and your Dad. Sleeping when your worn out is easy. I'm still doing that at 69 but getting worn out is pretty easy now although I still work full time driving a concrete mixer and maintain a large bit of land, four cars and a house.

  2. Have kids listen to Cory Booker's 25 hours of BS to fall asleep: cheaper than any drug the left may offer them.

    1. safer, too. and, yes, that includes melatonin.

  3. Melatonin is a hormone and if you take large doses frequently your body will stop producing it on its' own. Do your research and get lots of sun.

  4. It's part of Health Class, not a subject.
