The radio I grew up on...

Legends of 77 WABC (New York) radio posing for this 1984 photo - From left to right: Cousin Brucie (Bruce Morrow), Ron Lundy, program director Rick Sklar; Chuck Leonard, and Harry Harrison - Harry was a former Good Guy at 570 WMCA.
We also had Scott Muni, that cantankerous old fuck on WNEW-FM with Allison Steele (The 'Night Bird'), Murray the K and his Swingin' Soiree, Harry Harrison, Jack Spector, and one of the all time greats on WOR AM at bedtime, Gene Shepard, who settled in at WOR radio New York City on February 26, 1955, where he would remain until spring 1977. What great stories he told. I'd fall asleep with my little transistor radio under my pillow listening to his tales. My father used to get so pissed off at how many 9V batteries I killed that way...

He is probably best known as the narrator of the movie 'A Christmas Story...

  3. Buried in my Archives is my 1966 Cousin Bruce Morrow Fan Club ID card. 77-WABC's All-Americans included Dan Ingram who deejayed the afternoon spot. In those AM radio days we used to sideband tune into CKLW from Windsor, Ontario - another excellent AM station. When I was stationed in California we'd dial into KDAY (I think those were the call letters) to listen to Wolfman Jack in his prime. Good Times!

  6. One night in 1962 I picked up WABC on the am car radio as a girlfriend and I were parked up on the Sandia Mountain overlooking Albuquerque. It was almost like being home for a while.

Tidy up or pay the fiddler...

This house is about four blocks from my house, and, yes, it is a shithole. A Villager has been given one week to remove debris from his prop...
