New Jersey's new motto? 'Tax 'em until they all move somewhere else'...

Phil Murphy, the uber-liberal billionaire term-limited Dimocrat Governor of the Garden State had proposed $1.2 billion in new taxes and fees for FY 2026,  on everything from bowling and laser tag to batting cages and mini golf.
Fortunately for the people of the state? The entire Assembly is on the ballot this year (even though Phil Murphy isn’t). NJ.com is reporting that legislative Democrats have pushed back on some of the craziest ideas as part of a tenantive deal between the Democrat-controlled legislature and the governor’s office, but this is New Jersey so there will be increases. There are ALWAYS increases.

What’s out: the so-called “fun” tax hikes on things like bowling and laser tag. What’s in: the “sin” and “rich people” taxes:
A 30-cent increase on cigarettes (in a State where the average price of a pack of smokes is already over $ 12.00).
A tax hike for properties valued between $1 million and $2 million (fuck 'em, they can afford it, right?).
A 20% tax increase on sports betting and online gaming casino revenue (because the state isn't getting a big enough cut already).

no offense, but I never go into Jersey if I can help it. it always was a weird state to me.
one person I worked with years ago lived in Cherry hill and was bitching about her taxes of 5 grand. I told move the hell out of there. guess what she said back ? I love it here ! and this was back in the 1990's. God only knows how much they taxed them now.

  4. The DeCavalcante family will be happy to see the 20% tax hike. Bookies will see an uptick in bets.

  5. Ever so glad that I'd escaped New Jersey over 35 years ago. Even back then New Jersey was overpriced, overtaxed, overcrowded, and way overrated.
