Rob Manfred announced that Pete Rose, Shoeless Joe Jackson, and other deceased players from the permanently ineligible list have been reinstated. They are now eligible for the Hall of Fame.
Shoeless Joe was never convicted of anything in the Black Sox scandal. His career batting average was .356, which is the fourth-highest in MLB history. He also had a .375 batting average in the 1919 World Series.
He was known for his exceptional hitting ability and was considered one of the greatest natural hitters in baseball history, even by Babe Ruth.
The irony of it all is that Shoeless Joe's shoes are in the HOF, but he isn't. 'Shoeless' Joe's shoes. Think about that.

I never understood why Shoeless Joe was punished unless it boiled down to a powerless bureaucrat that wasn't getting any at home. Pete Rose I understood. Zero tolerance and all that. But the guy was betting on himself.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with putting either of them in the Hall Of Fame.
ReplyDeleteIMO Pete Rose is one of the best baseball players ever. I have a signed baseball I got at King Caterers in Bristol. Face it, he bet on baseball. Said he was sorry for betting on baseball. Then the asshole sold baseballs on the internet with his autograph and the words "I'm sorry I bet on baseball!" He doesn't belong in the HOF.
ReplyDeleteThe Shoeless Joe ban was BS that just became legend and keeping him out was just "the thing to do" over the decades. Rose you can make a case for but then baseball desperately wants to ignore the harm done by the steroid era and put all of those cheaters in. Sorry Barry Bonds, you and your tiny head on a giant body don't deserve to get in.
ReplyDeleteEVERY Hall of Fame has become a giant joke.
