So, basically, it's mostly Neil Young, the Guess Who and Rush?

Canadian content regulations, known as CanCon, require radio stations to play a specific amount of music that qualifies as Canadian content. For most English-language music radio stations, this quota is 35%. French-language stations have slightly different requirements, aiming to play a higher percentage of French-language music. CanCon aims to support and promote Canadian musicians and the Canadian music industry.
Most English-language music radio stations must play at least 35% Canadian content each week. French-language commercial, community, and campus radio stations must devote at least 65% of their popular music broadcast to French-language selections.

Some specialty formats, like classical music, may have lower quotas. The reason for this is that there are virtually no Canadian composers worth listening to. Juss' sayin'...

  1. Do you remember SCTV from the 1970's? several of their skits were Canada based skits for the same reason.

    1. They helped out those 'tards The Barenaked Ladies," but "The Tragically Hip" never got a cent..... likely because they actually had talent and never liked the Establishment.
Other bands that never received Canadian Government money:
      Rush
      Trooper
      April Wine
Nickelback (yes, I hate them, but they were hugely successful without Government Welfare)
      Tea Party
Anne Murray (even though I never liked her stuff, she also hated the Establishment)
      Stomping Tom Connors.
More talent there than every dipshit Rapper put together.

  4. Some Canadian musicians aren't well known in the US, and deserve to be. Others wouldn't last a week if not protected by content requirements...

  6. In some ways, the Canadian radio station regulations are a lot like those of North Korea.
