The number of Social Security beneficiaries reached a new high in April, with more than 69.3 million Americans earning monthly payments, according to Social Security Administration (SSA) data. As more baby boomers reach retirement age, the number of recipients relying on the program is set to increase just as the SSA faces a funding challenge.
Younger Americans will have to wait much longer to collect Social Security benefits, as the US government announced an increase to the retirement age. This year, the Full Retirement Age(FRA), for people born in 1959, was raised to 66 and ten months of age. Those born in 1958 can claim full benefits at 66 and eight months of age. Those born in 1960 or later have to wait until age 67.

ReplyDeletePeople aren't going to like hearing this but I retired at 62 20 years ago and born in 48. Someone taking early retirement now born after 1960 gets $700 more per month. But it cost me just as much to live as it does them. COLA never comes close to keeping up with government created inflation. So those born before 60 are driven into poverty and any nest egg you have built up is wiped out. People should be mad as hell that government isn't being cut by 60%.
