In 2024, global wine consumption is estimated at 214.2 million hectoliters, a 3.3% decrease from 2023, reaching the lowest level since 1961. This decline is attributed to a combination of economic and geopolitical factors leading to inflation and uncertainty, as well as a shift in consumer behavior and preferences in mature markets.
Global wine production also fell by 4.8% in 2024, to 225.8 mhl, also a historic low. The decline in consumption is attributed to factors like inflation, economic uncertainty, and changes in consumer preferences, including a shift towards health-conscious choices and alternative beverages in some markets.
