This is, or more precisely was, Jersey City's Roosevelt Stadium. It holds a rich history as a beloved sports venue that brought communities together for decades. The stadium primarily hosted baseball games, becoming the home to several minor league and independent baseball teams over the years. One of the most notable tenants was the Jersey City Giants, a Minor League Baseball team affiliated with the New York Giants. The Giants played at Roosevelt Stadium from 1937 to 1950, and the stadium witnessed memorable moments and showcased future Major League Baseball talent.
On April 18, 1946, Roosevelt Stadium hosted the Jersey City Giants' season opener against the Montreal Royals, marking the professional debut of the Royals' Jackie Robinson. In his five trips to the plate, Robinson got four hits, including a three-run homer, scored four runs and drove in three; he also stole two bases in the Royals' 14–1 victory.
Throughout its history, Roosevelt Stadium became a crucial venue for the development of baseball players who later went on to make significant impacts in the Major Leagues. Legendary figures such as Monte Irvin, Bobby Thomson, and Sal Maglie graced the field during their time with the Jersey City Giants, leaving an indelible mark on the stadium's legacy.
In addition to baseball, Roosevelt Stadium hosted various other sporting events, including football, boxing matches and concerts. While the physical structure may no longer stand, the memories of thrilling baseball games, electrifying concerts, and community gatherings continue to resonate with those who had the privilege of experiencing the magic of Roosevelt Stadium.

So here's my first story from the summer of '72, and it involves Alice Cooper. They were doing their 'School's out' tour, and, if you remember, the album had a pair of paper panties included in the sleeve. Well, somebody thought it'd be cool to have a helicopter fly over the stadium and dump paper panties out of it as it flew over. Well, of course you know what happened. The panties got whipped up by the downdraft of the chopper and got spread all over Hudson County.. I don't think five pairs made it in to the stadium. Sound familiar?

I think there's a similar story - maybe from the 1st Alice solo at the Hollywood Bowl - they dropped real panties to the crowd at the end and Elton John admitted he about lost his mind trying to get a pair.....
