Have you herd of puppets? Of course you have, but these puppets have a plan - and a sorta purpose, at least according to them, anyway. They're gonna solve all of the earth's climate problems. The 'public art initiative' called The Herds, which has already visited Kinshasa and Lagos, will travel to 20 cities over four months to raise awareness of the climate crisis.
It is the second major project from The Walk Productions, which introduced Little Amal, a 12-foot puppet, to the world in Gaziantep, near the Turkey-Syria border, in 2021. The award-winning project, co-founded by the Palestinian playwright and director Amir Nizar Zuabi, reached 2 million people in 17 countries as she travelled from Turkey to the UK. Growing as it moves, The Herds will make its way from Dakar to Morocco, then into Europe, including London and Paris, arriving in the Arctic Circle in early August.
To what end at the end of their journey? Who the fuck knows - or cares. If the kids get a kick out of seeing them, then fine, they accomplished at least that...

Journey?
ReplyDeleteWalk, go green.
I just saw an article about a local group of Climatards who will be parading their Salmon puppet around for some B.S. event they are throwing.
ReplyDeletePalestinian playwright? award-winning project? Little Amal is creepy. How about you stop killing people first then worry about the planet and animals. How about showing some of the wonderful things people are doing in the world for a change? And by the way what are your puppets made of and how are they transported? How much waste and harm are you creating?
ReplyDeleteCoud we do some real spell checking and not use the computer?
