U.S. students are experiencing declines in math skills, particularly post-pandemic, as evidenced by international and national assessments. This decline is noticeable in both fourth and eighth grade students, with significant drops in scores compared to pre-pandemic levels.
Several factors are believed to contribute to this trend, including the impact of school closures, changes in educational standards, and potential shifts in teaching priorities.
Nowadays they think talking to 10-year-olds about sex is more important than conjugating verbs or solving math problems. Most American kids today can't count to twelve without taking a shoe off or using their cell phone.

It's kinda hard to reach for the stars when their leaders work so hard at bringing everything down to street level. What kind of influence can they hope to have by limiting their vocabularies to steet talk, cursing and, in Kamala's case, rambling word salads that make no sense at all.

After taking a look at the data, researchers determined the safest seats on planes are at the back of the aircraft. They found sitting in rear middle seats could offer the best chance of walking away from a crash.

A friend/former family member posted this on Fakebook on Sunday. I smelled a fish but didn't comment. Then I ran across this this morning:
Even as ham-handed and leftie/liberal leaning as Snopes is, even they smelled a fish on it too.

I didn't pay $1200 a year to attend SUNY Buffalo, including books.
ReplyDeleteLooks like selling collage texts is still a big branch of the Education Industry! I really thought that ebooks and such would calm that part down... that was dumb.
ReplyDeleteAkshully, the Hitler quote is a pretty good summation of Article III, Section 1. "The judges, both of the supreme and inferior courts, shall hold their offices during good behaviour".
ReplyDeleteSchool indoctrination by The Lefty Lunatics started in the mid-70's, slowly at first then picked up steam in the 2000's. Now they are openly advocating for pedophilia while "grooming" children by "confusing" them (instead of teaching proper subjects)...and parents (some, not all) are like, "Okay" (Read that: Mostly Middle Class white suburban "mothers" who self-eliminated their she-bear DNA coding). Special place in Hell for these [mostly] female teachers (many sporting tats and piercings, showcasing their disrespect for anything normal).
ReplyDeleteTo say putting up posters of murderers and rapist on the WH lawn is a waste of time and money is just stupid. Thousands of people a day walk past there and see them and so does the lying press. Also the illegals see that and think that could be them in the future. It's a deterrent. Now they need the death penalty.
ReplyDeleteI want Trump arresting crooked judges. What's wrong with that?
ReplyDeleteI would love to run an idea by you good people. When I was in high school (78-82), there was a buzz among my teachers about "levels of learning" with knowledge being the lowest and synthesis being the highest. They were pushing hard against any memorization(drill-and-kill, they called it) at all and glamorized creativity(which is not really what synthesis is, exactly) as the highest functioning of the mind. I believe they had analysis and one other category in the middle. Please forgive my poor memory. It seems that over the years mathematics education suffered seriously from this. No longer did students memorize multiplication tables, but talked about creative ways to add or multiply. There really is nothing new about mathematics from counting to calculus that justified revamping completely how we were (formerly successfully) teaching it. What I think happened is this; the continuing-education requirements. Not that it was needed, but a grade school math teacher had a certain number of continuing education credits they were required to earn (not that it was needed in the particular case of mathematics). Since they had to take courses anyway, they pursued advanced degrees and did research projects about new ways to teach math (not that the old way was broken). Then there was enthusiasm for putting these new ideas to work to improve education. Well....it didn't work.
ReplyDeleteWhen I hear educators talk, they talk about diversity of thought and creativity being their highest values, yet their students don't seem to know much of anything because the educators seem to fear making them memorize anything at all. There is, of course, much more to say on this topic.
If you look at demographics (population by age and gender), China is doomed. We only need to hang on 50 more years and they'll be safely in a death spiral. This was the last generation that Russia would have the manpower to move against eastern Europe. China is in a similar boat with Taiwan. The window of opportunity is closing simply due to population dynamics.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad state of affairs, when people preparing a graphics on decline in math skills, can't actually read their own data. Proficiency in Data/Stats began to decline in 2007, not in 2013.
