In 1956, Thomas Fitzpatrick, a former Marine, found himself in a drunken bet that would soon become legendary. The challenge was simple: he was dared to leave the bar, fly to New Jersey, and return within 15 minutes. Despite being intoxicated, Fitzpatrick stole a small plane and successfully flew it to New Jersey. But the most incredible part of his stunt was his return. He expertly landed the plane on a narrow Manhattan street right in front of the bar where he had been drinking, completing the bet.
Two years later, Fitzpatrick found himself in a similar situation. A fellow bar patron refused to believe his earlier story, doubting the incredible feat. As a result, Fitzpatrick took on the challenge once again. This time, he repeated his earlier daring act, piloting a plane from New Jersey and landing it on the same street in Manhattan, proving his earlier feat was no mere tall tale.
Fitzpatrick’s wild stunts became a part of New York City folklore. His skill and audacity were undeniable, but what stood out the most was the sheer craziness of it all. Despite the risks and the impossibility of such a task, Fitzpatrick’s actions cemented his place in history as a man who, even while intoxicated, could pull off something few could ever imagine.

marines do not understand the words, "it can't be done". my uncle Jack was a Marine. served with Chesty Puller in the "Canal" to that shit storm Pelieu.. after that mess, and it was one. he was sent back to the states to train the Marines that later landed on Iwo. I think he had 2 maybe 3 purple hearts by then. I did see his "shoe box" once with all of his medals in it. it was better than half full. RIP, uncle Jack.
ReplyDelete"Once a Marine, always a Marine." The proper term is US Marine veteran.
ReplyDeleteI believe it except for the 15 minutes part.
ReplyDeleteTake a close look at that building across the street in the airplane photo.. Imagine living your life in a building like that. Or one even worse that that. Hamster cells surrounded by miles of concrete. It might not be Hell on earth but if not it's a close second.
