Is there really just too much media?

It's truly flattering that as many as 10,000 people a day check in to read this blog, but it got me thinking about the media - especially news media - that just seems to be eveywhere we turn our heads these days. You must be like me in that I fuckin' hate news on TV because they pander, they over-report, the friggin' giggle too much (what's that all about), and they talk about shit I could care less about, like global climate change and who got murdered in Disneyworld. I guess that's why we all end up at sites like this - for the irrelevance and lack of reverence. Thanks, guys...

  2. "In case you didn't know the formula they used to calculate the tariff rates..."

That formula doesn't calculate tariffs, it's bullshit. If it were true why are we levying tariffs against countries like Australia, we have a trade surplus with them, they buy more from the US than we buy from them. We have a free trade agreement with them. I dunno how people can buy into this tariff BS and believe everything Donnie tells them.

  3. I work at a GM assembly plant in Ramos Arizpe, in northern Mexico. Workers on the production line earn around $95 USD per week for 50 hours of work—roughly the equivalent of 5-6 hours of wages for a U.S. worker. Nearly all of the production from this plant is exported to the U.S., including the Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Cadillac Optiq, and many components for the Silverado EV. If these vehicles were manufactured in the U.S. at the average local wage, their final cost would far exceed the impact of a 25% tariff. In the end, it’s the consumer who will bear the burden of these increased costs.

  5. So basically the tariffs are a way to penalize countries that are penalizing us. If exports TO the US equal imports FROM the us, the numerator is zero- it's a fair game. We don't care about their total imports. If they export a LOT TO us, but import a lot from everyone else, OK, again not a huge deal. And if they import more from us than they export, regardless of total imports, their rate goes down. BUT: IF they export a lot to us, but don't import much from anybody, we're being played for suckers and the rate goes way up. The formula penalizes people who are taking advantage of us. That's what it should do.

    1. Rubbish, Australia imports more from us than we do from them, we have a trade surplus with them. Secondly at US wages if everything was made in the US we won't be able to afford it because it would be very expensive and nobody locally or internationally would buy our shit. There's a reason corporations farmed manufacturing out to low wage countries, everybody wants cheap stuff.

  6. Most reliable over what period of time? If cars are having that many issues over 6 months or even a year, that is pathetic. For me, the measure is 5 or even better - 10 years. Our two cars are 20 and 21 years old. Don't want ANYTHING CLOSE to a new car with bigBrother, and all the other crap included.

  8. This might even get better, not only are we going to pay for the tariffs we're also going to pay for the corporate tax credits (bailouts) to offset the negative effects of tariffs. The people must be pulling this wisdom out of their a-holes...

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-04-07/trump-team-considers-exporter-tax-credit-as-tariff-counterweight
"Trump administration officials are debating the merits of creating a new exporter tax credit, a move that offers an implicit acknowledgment of the harm that the White House’s tariff policies risk inflicting on US companies.

The rebate, which would be geared toward boosting US manufacturers, would be issued at the end of the year to offset the effects of retaliatory tariffs as American companies seek to sell their goods in foreign markets, according to people familiar with the deliberations.

The credit, which would require congressional approval, could also apply to companies that export services abroad, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss private talks."
