For the longest time - since it opened 5 years ago, I thought Texas
Roadhouse was a one-off restaurant in my neighborhood...
I had no idea it was a chain - and a franchise at that. Texas Roadhouse has dethroned Olive Garden as the No. 1 casual dining chain in America, according to Restaurant Business Magazine. The news comes after the steakhouse chain posted impressive Q4 2024 earnings outlining a comparable sales increase of 7.7% at company restaurants and 6.3% at domestic franchise restaurants.
Stock analyst/crazy man Jim Cramer appears to be bullish regarding the prospect of Texas Roadhouse’s immediate future. “Texas Roadhouse (TXRH) stock I like so much we decided to buy some for the charitable trust two weeks ago. Where else can you get an 8-ounce steak with two sides for $9.99 on the Wild West?” he added.
To be fair, I'll admit it's one of the few 'chain restaurants' I go to - especially since I didn't know it's a chain. They have a decent bar and the smoked ribs appetizer IS pretty insane - with fries - for only eight bucks. Try it yourself.

Say what you will about Ohtani, Judge has a much sweeter swing than pretty much every other power hitter in the game today. And just plain fuck Juan Soto. Period.

Everybody freaking the fuck out over the tariffs and tanking the stock market makes no sense. Yesterday, utility stocks - as a sector - were down nearly five percent. Please tell me WTF Duke Energy or PSE&G have to do with friggin' tariffs. Anyway, don't freak, and don't sell low if you don't have to. If you're like me and do dividend reinvestment with your equities, the lower prices actually do you a favor if the stock's dividend isn't reduced. When you get the dividend payout, you actually get more shares at the lower stock price. Savvy?

One of the fondest Memories I have from when I was a kid in the summer was going to the boardwalk in Wildwood for 'junk dinner night" and having Mack's Pizza for just 25 cents a slice...

Two US border inspectors in Southern California have been charged with taking thousands of dollars in bribes to allow people to enter the country through the nation’s busiest port of entry without showing documents.
US Customs and Border Protection officers Farlis Almonte and Ricardo Rodriguez were assigned to immigration inspection booths at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Proves what I've said all along. No matter where you look, you're gonna find a jerkoff in the mix somewhere...

Since this foo faw over tariffs is such a thing, here is the main reason the U.S. power companies be shitting bricks.
ReplyDeleteI speak for experience, having done business with vendors/factories in China for most of the 1990's in the areas of component sourcing and quality control.
Pretty much every single high voltage transformer on the planet is currently made in China. The U.S. farmed this out due to cost and pollution concerns (or at least this was the mantra) in the late 1980's. Yeah, Siemens and a few others still make some in their country of origin, but at astronomical costs to their government, and even they bring in parts from China.
In other words, we all collectively screwed our own industry and by default , all the labor that used to work in our factories building stuff. Bringing that back will take a couple of years at the very least and there will be related cost increases until volume/market and efficiencies of automation kick in.
Fast forward to today. Every major line company and power distribution grid operator has maybe a dozen major replacement components on hand, that is to say for their entire operating area, one or two of each size for the big honker HV side and a few dozen pole transformers to feed homes and small business. Guess what, tornado season came and now those transformers will cost more and short term, most utilities cannot pass on the increased cost as they are operated by private companies but overseen by the state. Of course, this does not factor in what happens if Joe Chink decides to invade Formosa and ALL trade with China grinds to a halt until that is resolved, if it can be resolved. Interesting times, eh?
Mexico just wants to study how the sugar coatings in the Frosted Flakes so they can do the same with cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl when they ship them back.
ReplyDeleteSlice at Mack's is now $3
ReplyDeleteJoe - Thanks for the Heads-Up on Texas Roadhouse. Never heard of the place before but found out that there are a lot of them in central Florida. The menu specials look tempting and they offer a 10% discount for military active and vets.
ReplyDeleteThere's one in Odessa, FL on Highway 54, not too far for me to give it a try.
Loved Mack's! A lotta people swear the Grotto's pizza in PA, DE and MD somehow copied their recipes.
