In 1988, a terrifying mid-air emergency unfolded when the roof of an Aloha Airlines plane suddenly tore off at 24,000 feet because of an 'explosive decompression'. Despite the chaos and high-altitude conditions, the pilot remained calm under pressure and managed to land the aircraft safely just 13 minutes later.
All 89 passengers on board miraculously survived the ordeal. Tragically, one flight attendant lost her life during the incident. Her bravery and the crew’s quick response remain a powerful reminder of the risks flight crews face and the resilience of those who work to keep others safe in the skies.
Yeah - I think I'd be crawling on all fours for a while after that kinda shit...

ReplyDeleteThe stewardess got sucked out of the plane and was never found. Talk about a horrible death.
ReplyDeleteAs I have said repeatedly, in case of an accident...EVERYONE gets a window seat....
ReplyDeleteYou're still in Hawaii and not swimming back.
ReplyDeleteI was on that plane about two or three weeks before that happened. Flew from Maui to Oahu for dinner at Andy Andersens( restaurant) he was the governor of Hawaii at the time, and then back to Maui.
ReplyDeleteThat was a giant "Holy shitter!"
ReplyDeleteMy older sister was the number 2 person in the Hawaii dept of transportation when this happened. She had the job of running the investigation into the cause. According to her commission's findings; there was a huge amount of volcanos that year, spewing tons of ash into the air. This plane flew through that ash cloud quite a few times. All of that ash eroded the heads of the rivets off, that held the thing together. And the fuselage just poof; fell apart.
