He was the youngest American service member to be killed in the Vietnam War.His is a great story. It's here on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial website. It's a great organization. Think athletes today make a lot of money? The Babe started it all...

Babe Ruth’s groundbreaking $160,000 contract with the New York Yankees in 1930 was a defining moment in baseball history, solidifying his status as the sport’s biggest icon. Adjusted for inflation, $160,000 in 1930 is equal to $2,935,860 in 2025, so it's not so much, but coming during the Great Depression, is was a gargantuan amount.
At $80,000 per year, Ruth’s salary surpassed that of U.S. President Herbert Hoover, a fact the slugger famously shrugged off by saying, “I had a better year than he did.” This contract came after an extraordinary 1929 season where Ruth hit 46 home runs, drove in 154 RBIs, and maintained a .345 batting average. His star power not only elevated the Yankees but also played a crucial role in making baseball America’s favorite pastime. During this period, the Yankees were transitioning from the “Murderers’ Row” era of the late 1920s into a new decade, still centered around Ruth’s powerful bat.
The contract set a new benchmark for player salaries, reflecting the growing commercialization of baseball and the increasing financial power of major league teams. Ruth’s influence extended beyond the field, as he helped fuel the construction of Yankee Stadium in 1923, famously called “The House That Ruth Built.” By the end of his Yankees tenure in 1934, he had rewritten record books with 714 career home runs, a mark that stood until Hank Aaron surpassed it in 1974. His impact on baseball’s financial and cultural landscape remains unparalleled, with his legacy still shaping the game today.
Thanks again Twisted Hillbillies. You came through for us again...

'The Fighting Lady' - AKA The Yorktown...
Grab your favorite chair, make a cupacawfee and
settle in for a great documentary...
This film is a military documentary told from the point of view of the crew of the aircraft carrier the Fighting Lady -- a pseudonym for the Yorktown. Scenes highlight the functions and duties of The Fighting Lady and crew activities, and maps illustrate the movement of the Pacific fleet and its engagement with the Japanese in 1943 and 1944. Footage shows the following: A-24 Dauntlesses, TBF Avengers, Hellcats and other aircrafts as they flew out to the carrier, and the August 30, 1943, strafing and bombing mission over Japanese - held Marcus Island -- from preparation on the carrier to debriefing. Later scenes cover 1944, when the U.S. forces took Kwajalein Island, the Marshall Islands, Truk Islands, and Caroline Islands through air assaults and troop landings. Mitsubishi Zero-Sens (Zekes) engaged the U.S. Navy assault force and the ship squadron returned to the Marshall Islands for repairs, munitions, and rest and recreation. En route to the battle area, the Fighting Lady encountered and downed a Japanese reconnaissance plane. On the eve of battle, sailors attended church services. Prior to the U.S. assault, the Japanese attacked the U.S. squadron and U.S. planes took off for the Marianas and the Guam Islands where they successfully fought at the Tinian and Mariana Islands. The Japanese and U.S. task forces then fought in the Philippine Sea, where planes engaged in dogfights while ships performed evasive maneuvers. Final scenes show U.S. casualties buried at sea.
THAT is the image they have of us guys from Jersey? Jeez...
Some guy over in England asked his AI machine what a typical guy from New Jersey looks like. This is what AI came up with...
Our European friends might think of Jersey guys as walking, talking episodes of “Jersey Shore*,” perpetually fist-pumping and tanning on the beach. Maybe they think New Jersey natives communicate solely through dramatic hand gestures and “fuhgeddaboudit” catchphrases. The reality is I probably know eight guys who look almost exactrly like the AI rendering.
Apparently, these people do see us natives of New Jersey as spaghetti-loving messes. But New Jersey has beautiful shorelines, 'diverse' cities, and some killer pizza (not just pasta). So, Europeans, maybe you should spend some time there - visit Jersey and see that there’s more to it than the stereotypes. Just don't go out alone at night.
(*None of the people on the show Jersey Shore were from NJ - they were all from Staten Island)

Elon Musk was handing out $1,000,000.00 checks to some lucky voters picked at random who were found voting in the Wisconsin supreme court election race.
Musk denied he was buying votes but said the court election outcome would be critical to Trump’s agenda and ‘the future of civilization’.

Einstein’s theory of special relativity, first published in 1905, states that time moves relative to the observer. That means on Earth, we move through time at the same pace. However, if a person moves faster, they will travel more rapidly through time. In other words, if we could travel fast enough, we could travel through time. Heavy shit, that...

What's the longest movie ever to win 'best picture'?
It's kind of a trick question. The longest movie to win a Best Picture Oscar is "Gone with the Wind" (1939) at 238 minutes (3 hours and 58 minutes). A documentary about OJ Simpson and the movie 'War and Peace' both won Academy Awards and were much longer tham GWTW, but neither won for best picture. GWTW still holds that record.

WTF is in the drinking water in the Land of Fruits and Nuts?
Ya really do have to wonder how these people make it back to their homes every night. According to this report, a proposed ballot initiative in California is named after UnitedHealthcare CEO assassin Luigi Mangione. The Luigi Mangione Access to Health Care Act submitted to the California Attorney General’s Office would make it illegal for an insurance company to “delay, deny or modify any medical procedure or medication” that is suggested by a licensed physician in the Golden State where there could be serious consequences such as “disability, death, amputation, permanent disfigurement, loss or reduction of any bodily function,” the document states. It was filed by Paul Eisner, a longtime Los Angeles-based attorney.
The terms “delay” and “deny” were made popular by the healthcare book “Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About.” The words “delay, deny, and depose” were reportedly inscribed on the casings of the bullets that killed Brian Thompson on Dec. 4.
Telling - and reporting - the truth isn't easy for some people.
For our friends at NPR it's damn near impossible if it doesn't go along 100% with their liberal, uber-left narrative...
It is a sad reality that we (the government 'we' that is) give them so much funding every year so they can distort issues and propogate lies with their liberal bent. Maher is an elitist, privileged, rich white woman who's track record of liberalism is unescapable. There is no way she will change the course of their editorial and news reporting bias. No federal money should be provided to these fuckin' liars. Let the people - the choir they preach to - pay their bills or let them go bust. Plain and simple.

New Jersey gubernatorial candidate and Newark mayor Ras Baraka (D.) defended the Nation of Islam and accused critics of trying to silence him after a video surfaced showing him applauding racist and violent comments from Louis Farrakhan, the group’s notorious anti-Semitic leader.
While serving as Newark’s deputy mayor in 2004, Baraka hosted Farrakhan to celebrate the first day of Kwanzaa - a bullshit, made up holiday (as are all holidays) some black folks celebrate instead of Christmas. The Nation of Islam minister encouraged the mostly black audience to "break his neck" if "the cracker hit you on the jaw," called white people "the devil," and praised Baraka’s father. Baraka, for his part, called Farrakhan a "role model" whose teachings helped him "become a man" as a college student.
A Newark native, Baraka is the son of poet and 'activist' Amiri Baraka (who's real name was Everett Leroy Jones). His father may have single-handedly been the flint that ignited the riots in Newark in the summer of 1967.
As a side note, my father was the police officer (sergeant) who arrested and jailed Leroy Jones. He said it was his best day on the job.

Here’s a throwback to 2009—when the Old and New Yankee Stadiums stood side by side in The Bronx, just before the original was demolished.
The original @YankeeStadium opened in 1923, and on that very first Opening Day, Babe Ruth hit a towering home run to christen the ballpark—earning it the nickname “The House That Ruth Built.” It would go on to host the @Yankees for 85 years and witness 26 championships.
The new Yankee Stadium, just across the street, opened in 2009 and delivered the Yankees their 27th title that same year.

Can you get your head around how big his friggin' ego must be that he thinks he's a shoe-in for mayor of NYC after his disasterous handling of COVID in New York State? He was the first governor who remanded seniors in to old-age homes and guaranteed they would die of/from the disease.
