According to reports this morning, The US and Colombia pulled back from the brink of a trade war on Sunday after the White House said the Colombians had agreed to accept military aircraft carrying deported migrants. Donald Trump had threatened tariffs and sanctions on Colombia to punish it for earlier refusing to accept military flights carrying deportees amid his sweeping immigration crackdown, but in a statement late yesterday, the White House said Colombia had agreed to accept the migrants and Washington would not impose its threatened penalties. “The government of Colombia has agreed to all of President Trump’s terms, including the unrestricted acceptance of all illegal aliens from Colombia returned from the United States, including on US military aircraft, without limitation or delay,” it said. 

I think Gustavo Petro, the Columbian President, didn't want to end up like this at a White House dinner...

Trump announced on Truth Social on Sunday that he instructed his administration to impose sanctions and tariffs on Colombia and its government officials after the President refused to allow two separate military flights of migrants land back in their country. 

'These measures are just the beginning,' the president warned. 'We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!'

Gary Trudeau's mother lived on St. John (Virgin Islands) at the same time we did back throughout the 90's.
