It's pretty much the same every year. Right around now - mid-January - we start to get 'frost warnings' where the temp may dip below freezing for an hour or two overnight. People are out covering their palm and citrus trees with canvas with fruitless (pun intended) results. Meanwhile, the snowbirds from the upper midwest like Wisconsin and Minnesota are running around in shorts and flipflops, and I go straight to jeans and hoodies. I guess it's just a matter of perspective, ain't it...

L.A. fires are nothing new but reporters think that history began the day they were born.When I was 10, more than 60 years ago my folks bought me a new bike. The Santa Ana winds were blowing so hard the garage shook while my dad put it together. When I took it out to ride I could go "like the wind" until I had to turn around and pedal "into" the wind."
